Hipgnosis Songs Fund\u00a0hit a major milestone<\/a> in its native UK last month with its market cap soaring above GBP \u00a31 billion for the first time \u2013 just over two years after going public on the London Stock Exchange.<\/p>\n

Today (September 24), the aggressively acquisitive company, founded by CEO Merck Mercuriadis (pictured), has hit another impressive financial landmark \u2013 raising more than \u00a3420m ($535m) in the past two months alone.<\/p>\n

Following July’s news<\/a> that Hipgnosis raised \u00a3236.4m ($299m) via the sale of a tranche of C class shares in the UK-based company, the firm revealed today that it has now added another \u00a3190m (approximately $242m) to its acquisition warchest.<\/p>\n

The latest round of cash was raised this week via the placing of a tranche of new Ordinary Shares on the market on Monday (September 21) at a price of 116 pence ($2.94) per share.<\/p>\n

In just 72 hours, the placing, which is now closed, resulted in gross proceeds of approximately \u00a3186.4m ($237m).<\/p>\n

Further gross proceeds of \u00a33.6m ($4.6m) were additionally raised<\/a>\u00a0via an offer made on the PrimaryBid platform of new Ordinary Shares at the issue price (to provide retail investors with an opportunity to participate in the equity fundraising alongside institutional investors).<\/p>\n

Hipgnosis announced on Monday that it plans to use the new proceeds<\/a> to buy approximately 50 catalogs for which its investment advisor The Family (Music) Limited has already \u201cidentified and secured exclusivity on\u201d.<\/p>\n

Included in those catalogs \u201care some of the most influential hit songs of each of the past six decades\u201d.<\/p>\n

UK-based Hipgnosis announced the double hire<\/a>\u00a0of respected music industry execs Ted Cockle and Amy Thomson, plus the acquisition of Los Angeles-based\u00a0Big Deal Music Group.<\/a><\/p>\n

There\u2019s also been a run of acquisitions involving the catalogs of Blondie\u2019s\u00a0Debbie Harry and Chris Stein<\/a>, Kanye West and Jay-Z producer\u00a0No I.D.<\/a>, Wu Tang Clan\u2019s\u00a0Robert \u2018RZA\u2019 Diggs,\u00a0<\/a>M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0Nikki Sixx<\/a>, and Pretenders star\u00a0Chrissie Hynde<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
