{"id":83137,"date":"2020-05-01T17:24:57","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T16:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/?post_type=companies&#038;p=83137"},"modified":"2021-01-27T13:20:49","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T13:20:49","slug":"sony-music-group","status":"publish","type":"companies","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/sony\/sony-music-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Sony Music Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sony Music Group is the umbrella company for Sony&#8217;s recorded music and publishing operations outside of Japan.<\/p>\n<p>As such, it houses both Sony Music Entertainment (home to Columbia, Epic, RCA and other labels) as well as the world&#8217;s biggest music publishing company, Sony\/ATV.<\/p>\n<p>Sony Music Group (SMG) launched on August 1, 2019, and is run by its Chairman, Rob Stringer \u2013 who is also CEO of Sony Music Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>The move brings the company in line with the other majors, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, both of which also house recorded music and publishing entities as Sony&#8217;s competitors.<\/p>\n<p>SMG reports directly into Sony Corporation in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/rob-stringer-to-run-new-sony-music-group-housing-publishing-and-records-from-august-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcing the formation of Sony Music Group<\/a> in July 2019,\u00a0Sony Corporation President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said in a memo obtained by MBW: &#8220;I would like for the new Sony Music Group and SMEJ [Sony Music Entertainment Japan] to continue and further strengthen their collaboration in the spirit of One Sony.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Added Yoshida: &#8220;The purpose of this new Group is to further strengthen and solidify Sony\u2019s position as a leader in the music industry and create new value for the company,\u201d adds Yoshida in the memo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unification will help us foster a higher level of collaboration between our recorded music and music publishing businesses, while respecting and maintaining the independence and unique culture of each organization.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rob Stringer runs SMG as Chairman of the company<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":4292,"parent":98118,"menu_order":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-83137","companies","type-companies","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/companies\/83137","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/companies"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/companies"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/companies\/83137\/revisions"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/companies\/98118"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/4292"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=83137"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
