On March 31, HYBE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/hybe-india-launches-search-for-girl-group-with-auditions-extending-to-london-new-york-singapore-toronto-and-sydney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> a nationwide talent search in India to form a new girl group, accepting applications through July 31 from girls born between 2005 and 2011. Auditions will be conducted both online and across 10 Indian cities:\u00a0<b>Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai\u00a0<\/b>and<b>\u00a0Pune<\/b>.\u00a0Indians outside the country can audition at locations in\u00a0<b>London, New York, Singapore, Toronto\u00a0<\/b>and<b>\u00a0Sydney.<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">HYBE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/hybe-expands-into-india-opening-fifth-global-hq-in-mumbai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set up<\/a> its Indian subsidiary in Mumbai in September, citing the country&#8217;s growing streaming market and rising K-pop consumption. The India search is part of HYBE\u2019s strategy of exporting its training-and-development model \u2014 used to produce BTS and other K-pop acts \u2014 worldwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">HYBE\u2019s most recent talent development success is <b>KATSEYE<\/b>, its first Western girl group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/after-120000-submissions-hybe-and-geffen-unveil-20-artists-to-compete-for-a-spot-in-new-global-girl-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formed<\/a>\u00a0through a partnership with<b>\u00a0Universal Music Group\u2018s\u00a0Geffen<\/b>\u00a0<b>Records. <\/b>The audition for <b>Dream<\/b> <b>Academy<\/b>, which produced KATSEYE, attracted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chosun.com\/english\/travel-food-en\/2026\/04\/06\/MQINW4UNFRC3NCHC3HQC7S23LI\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>120,000<\/b> applicants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">KATSEYE\u2019s singles\u00a0<i>Gnarly\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Gabriela<\/i>\u00a0saw multi-week runs on the\u00a0<i>Billboard<\/i>\u00a0Hot 100, and the group has since earned Grammy nominations and an MTV VMA win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last year, the HYBE-Geffen alliance\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/after-katseye-success-hybe-geffen-launches-talent-search-for-second-girl-group-starting-in-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a>\u00a0another talent search for a second girl group, which kicked off in Japan. Three contestants from\u00a0the 2023\u00a0<i>Dream Academy,\u00a0<\/i>which produced KATSEYE, were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/three-former-katseye-contestants-confirmed-for-hybe-geffens-second-global-girl-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0as members of the unnamed group, set to debut this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Through HYBE Latin America, the company also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/hybe-reveals-finalists-for-santos-bravos-its-first-ever-latin-music-boy-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">produced<\/a>\u00a0a Latin boy group called\u00a0<b>SANTOS<\/b>\u00a0<b>BRAVOS<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Aside from HYBE and RETOPIA SALON, <b>SM<\/b> <b>Entertainment<\/b>\u00a0has also <a href=\"https:\/\/audition.smtown.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">started holding auditions globally<\/a>. In December, the agency behind <b>aespa<\/b>, <b>NCT<\/b> and <b>RIIZE<\/b> announced the 2026 SM Global Audition, which began in Busan on January 10. Following the South Korean leg of the auditions, the search will move to 21 locations worldwide, including Bangkok; Fukuoka, Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in Japan; Shanghai, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Beijing, Changsha and Chengdu in China; Los Angeles and New Jersey; and Sydney and Brisbane in Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Speaking with MBW in March, SM Entertainment Co-CEO <b>Dmitry YJ Tak<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/sm-entertainment-co-ceos-daniel-jang-dmitry-yj-tak-talk-creative-transformation-the-k-pop-firms-ai-strategy-and-what-success-looks-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>: \u201cWe must continue evolving how K-pop is made.
