Create Music Group (CMG) has announced another big-money deal \u2013 this time with Vancouver-headquartered indie Nettwerk Music Group.<\/p>\n
Nettwerk<\/strong> has today (February 6) confirmed that it has entered into a definitive agreement to complete a management buyout<\/strong> from its existing investors.<\/p>\n As part of the proposed arrangement, CMG’s Create Capital<\/strong> will invest over USD $300 million<\/strong> into Nettwerk on closing, and says it will also provide access to “substantial follow-on capital and support services thereafter”.<\/p>\n In a press release, the parties stated that the deal \u2013 expected to close later this month \u2013 will allow the Nettwerk<\/strong> management team to increase its ownership stake, enabling the Canadian firm to retain its “identity and independence”.<\/p>\n MBW<\/em> understands the deal will see Create<\/strong> taking a controlling position in Nettwerk\u2019s<\/strong> music IP portfolio, while Nettwerk itself remains independently owned and operated.<\/p>\n Los Angeles-hedquartered Create<\/strong> will move Nettwerk’s<\/strong> catalog into its system, which CMG<\/strong> believes it can use to increase the value of the IP.<\/p>\n Following the deal, Nettwerk’s<\/strong> leadership team will continue to manage its day-to-day operations, signings and artist development efforts, with support from Create\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n In 2023, Nettwerk announced<\/a> a funding round led by private equity firm Flexpoint Ford<\/strong>, alongside existing investors\u00a0Beedie Capital<\/strong> and Vistara Growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Though it’s currently unclear which of these investors may have exited via the new management buyout, they have an interesting link to Create: Flexpoint Ford<\/strong> led a $165 million<\/strong> investment round<\/a> into Create in 2024, which valued CMG at over $1 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Since that raise, Create Music Group<\/strong> has been on an acquisition tear.
