But it bears all of the hallmarks of what we were expecting.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__tweeny hidden-xs hidden-ms hidden-sm\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"992 1200 1440\" data-name=\"628x90 Sponsor banner #5 (992+1200+1440)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_628\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_628\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__banner mb-advert__banner--inline hidden-xs hidden-sm hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"480\" data-name=\"468x60 Sponsor banner #5 (480)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_468\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_468\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__mobile mb-advert__mobile--inline hidden-ms hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"320 768\" data-name=\"300x50 Sponsor banner #5 (320+768)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_300\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_300\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening: from today (November 13), <strong>Spotify<\/strong> is piloting a revamped subscription structure across five international markets, introducing three distinct Premium tiers designed &#8220;to better meet diverse user needs&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The firm&#8217;s menu of subscription offerings for new users in these markets now includes <strong>Premium Lite,<\/strong> <strong>Premium Standard<\/strong> (including a Student version), and <strong>Premium Platinum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The markets in question? <strong>India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa<\/strong>, and the <strong>United Arab Emirates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Although this is a pilot launch in a restricted number of territories, you could forgive the likes of Universal&#8217;s<strong> Sir Lucian Grainge<\/strong>, Sony&#8217;s<strong> Rob Stringer<\/strong>, and Warner&#8217;s <strong>Robert Kyncl<\/strong> from seeing dollar signs.<\/p>\n<p>Take <strong>India<\/strong>, for example:<\/p>\n<ul><li>Earlier today, according to the market&#8217;s official Spotify site, a standard <strong>&#8216;Individual Premium&#8217;<\/strong> subscription to Spotify in India cost <strong>\u20b9139 per month<\/strong>, equivalent to <strong>USD $1.57<\/strong>.<\/li><li>After the new rollout, the equivalent tier \u2013 <strong>&#8216;Premium Standard&#8217;<\/strong> \u2013 will cost <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>43%<\/strong><\/span> more, at <strong>\u20b9199 ($2.24)<\/strong> per month.<\/li><li>For more price-conscious consumers, a new tier \u2013<strong> &#8216;Premium Lite&#8217;<\/strong> \u2013 will cost <strong>\u20b9139<\/strong> per month (i.e. the same price as the old standard &#8216;Individual Premium&#8217; offering).<\/li><li>And then the big news: The <strong>\u2018Premium Platinum\u2019<\/strong> tier is priced at <strong>\u20b9299 ($3.37)<\/strong> per month. they won&#8217;t on Spotify&#8217;s standard tier?<\/p>\n<p>Exclusive access to <strong>Lossless<\/strong> audio quality, a feature Spotify notes is among the most requested by users, plus <strong>AI-powered features<\/strong> like AI DJ and AI Playlist, third-party DJ integration, mixing tools, and existing features including Jam and daylist.<\/p>\n<p>To reiterate: the new range of Premium offerings in the five affected nations will only be available for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">new<\/span> subscribers (for now, anyway).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This is an evolution of our Premium subscriptions portfolio and reflects the engagement insights we&#8217;re seeing across our platform.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Spotify statement<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Spotify has confirmed that existing subscribers in the five markets will retain their current benefits and features, though they can opt to upgrade to the new plans.<\/p>\n<p>The firm will continue to offer its ad-supported <strong>free tier<\/strong> across all five markets, with Premium Lite representing the entry-level paid subscription.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words\">&#8220;This is an evolution of our Premium subscriptions portfolio and reflects the engagement insights we&#8217;re seeing across our platform,&#8221; tier echoes some of what we&#8217;ve seen in China, where music streaming company <strong><a class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Tencent Music Entertainment [285 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/tencent-music-entertainment\/\">Tencent Music Entertainment<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/tencent-music-now-has-15-million-super-vip-subscribers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a> in August that its higher-priced <strong>SVIP membership program <\/strong>had\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/tencent-music-now-has-15-million-super-vip-subscribers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surpassed<\/a>\u00a0<strong>15 million<\/strong>\u00a0subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>According to TME, Premium sound quality \u201cremains the most popular SVIP membership benefit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>TME SVIP subscribers pay approximately\u00a0<strong>RMB 40 (USD $5.58)<\/strong>\u00a0per month compared to the standard\u00a0<strong>RMB 8<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>(USD $1.12)<\/strong>\u00a0subscription, meaning these premium users generate five times the revenue of regular subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Comparisons can also be made to subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services such as <strong>Netflix<\/strong>, which offers three <a href=\"https:\/\/help.netflix.com\/en\/node\/24926\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subscription tiers<\/a> of its own \u2013 Standard with Ads; Standard; and Premium.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body whitespace-normal break-words\">Most of the premium features now being locked to &#8216;Premium Platinum&#8217; in <strong>India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa<\/strong>, and the <strong>United Arab Emirates <\/strong>are new to the pilot markets, though some exceptions exist;
