Stat Of the Week is supported by\u00a0music data analytics firm\u00a0<a class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/chartmetric.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Chartmetric<\/a>.\n<hr \/>\n<p>TikTok wants to remind you how important it is to the music business.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, in the past few years the platform has started running analyses that compare music charts to viral trends on its platform.<\/p>\n<p>And the latest data point from that effort shows that, in Germany, the world&#8217;s fourth-largest recorded music market, one in three tracks that hit the top position on the charts went viral first on TikTok in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, more than one in four of the songs that made it to the German Top 100 Singles Chart in 2024 were \u201cfirst successful\u201d on TikTok, on average 13 days before entering the chart, TikTok\u2019s analysis found.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__tweeny hidden-xs hidden-ms hidden-sm\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"992 1200 1440\" data-name=\"628x90 Sponsor banner #3 (992+1200+1440)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_628\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_628\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__banner mb-advert__banner--inline hidden-xs hidden-sm hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"480\" data-name=\"468x60 Sponsor banner #3 (480)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_468\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_468\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__mobile mb-advert__mobile--inline hidden-ms hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"320 768\" data-name=\"300x50 Sponsor banner #3 (320+768)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_300\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_300\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>That includes not only well-known German artists like <strong>Ayliva<\/strong>, <strong>Shirin David<\/strong> and <strong>Helene Fischer<\/strong>, but international stars like <strong>Miley Cyrus<\/strong> and <strong>Disturbed<\/strong> as well, TikTok <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/de-de\/tiktok-musik-charts-analyse-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently wrote<\/a> on its German-language blog.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe path to many chart successes begins on TikTok,\u201d the ByteDance-owned platform boasted.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok offered several examples of this, including Ayliva\u2019s hit track <em>Lieb mich<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter video views and creations peaked in early February 2024, the song entered the charts shortly thereafter and immediately reached the top spot a week later,\u201d TikTok said.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #3\" data-params=\"dfp_spu3\" id=\"dfp_spu3\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Earlier this year, Helene Fischer and <strong>Florian Silbereisen<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Schau mal herein<\/em> entered the singles charts shortly after it became the most-heard piece of music among TikTok users in Germany, and 35,000 videos featuring the song were posted.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not only true for current music; catalog music also gets plenty of attention on TikTok, and sometimes that virality propels a track back onto the charts years after its release.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe path to many chart successes begins on TikTok.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">TikTok<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOver 50 catalog songs made their way onto the <em>Billboard<\/em> Global 200 via the platform in 2024, primarily hits from the 80s, 2000s, and 2010s,\u201d TikTok said, citing data produced in partnership with market monitor <strong>Luminate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSongs like <em>Ain&#8217;t No Sunshine<\/em> by <strong>Bill Withers<\/strong> and <em>Linger<\/em> by <strong>The Cranberries<\/strong> celebrated their debut in the global top 200 after their viral success on TikTok.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TikTok said the \u201cbest example\u201d of this was <strong>Alphaville<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Forever Young<\/em>, which turned 40 years old in 2024. \u201cThe band was rewarded with the attention of the TikTok community, which viewed the video millions of times, incorporated it into their videos, and thus paved the way back into the charts,\u201d TikTok said.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>According to a survey of TikTok users in Germany, the favorite eras for catalog music are the 90s (48%), the 80s (41%), and the 2000s (41%).<\/p>\n<p>Also last year, <strong>Peter Schilling<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Major Tom (v\u00f6llig losgel\u00f6st)<\/em>, the official goal anthem of the German national team for the European football championship, became a hit again 42 years after its release. I&#8217;m particularly pleased that TikTok gives artists of all genres and generations the chance to be discovered and heard by a large audience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is the latest in a series of data released by TikTok highlighting its central role in music discovery and taste-making.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, TikTok <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/tiktok-reveals-its-top-songs-of-2024-says-that-13-of-16-no-1-hits-in-the-us-this-year-are-linked-to-trends-on-its-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released data<\/a> showing that 13 of the 16 tracks that reached No. 1 on the US <em>Billboard<\/em> Hot 100 were in some way linked to a trend on TikTok. And in February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/tiktok-84-of-songs-that-entered-billboards-global-200-chart-in-2024-went-viral-on-our-platform-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the platform said<\/a> that <strong>84%<\/strong> of the songs that reached the <em>Billboard<\/em> Global 200 in 2024 had gone viral on TikTok first.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The news of TikTok&#8217;s impact on the charts in Germany arrives alongside the expansion of the company&#8217;s SoundOn distribution service in the country.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">TikTok recently cited SoundOn success stories from the German market, such as Austrian DJ\u00a0<strong>Ely<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Oaks,<\/strong>\u00a0who has accumulated\u00a0<strong>770,000<\/strong>\u00a0TikTok followers and saw his track<em>\u00a0Borderline\u00a0<\/em>reach No. 17 on German charts after going viral.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>SoundOn has seen over 1.1 million artists register to access its services since launching in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to its website,\u00a0<strong>SoundOn<\/strong>\u00a0currently counts\u00a0<strong>1.158 million<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cpartners and growing\u201d.
